5 Plug-ins That Will Take Your Music Production To the Next Level in 2023.
Learning music production is very rewarding. Using the available free stock plug-ins that come with your DAW of choice however, don't always do the trick. In this article I'll let you in on which 5 VST plugins I personally think are essential if you're serious about making music in 2022. Let's get to it.
Fabfilter
Starting of with a behemoth, FabFilter has so many different plug-ins that it can be hard to decide which one to get, if you're not aiming to spend your entire month's earnings, that is.
If you're looking for a solid compressor, their Pro-C is a really intuitive choice. I personally use the Pro-Q equalizer, which has done wonders for most of my work. That being said, it is kind of pricey, at 149$.
Valhalla
You might already know about Valhalla if you've been looking for reverb plug-ins before. Since theres a pretty solid reverb already in Fl studio Producer Edition, I was sceptic to spend money on this type of plug-in.
I was therefore delighted to find out that Valhalla has a free option, which is Valhalla Super Massive. You should definetely try that one out, link here.
I did however bite the bullet and purchase their VintageVerb option, which I do not sleep on during any project. You can get it for 50$ right now.
RC-20 Retro Color
This one might be a niche pick, but I use it for almost every project. RC-20 Retro Color lets you add that sweet old cassette tape effect along with plenty other optons. If any of the music producers you know ever talk about texture in a track, this plug-in will give you an idea of exactly what they're talking about.
If you think this might just be the thing your next track needs, you can get their plug-in for just about 108$ on their online store.
Serum
I told myself I would never need this plug-in, then I tried it. If you're making EDM, this is almost a no-brainer. What sold me on this plug-in is that you can make virtually any sound with it, as long as you know what you're doing.
The idea of having one tool that you can make an entire composition with (yes, drums too), astounded me. What you'll also notice is the sheer quality of the sounds produced, making Serum a must have if you're planning on taking your music production to the next level. It is however the priciest plug-in yet, coming in at 189$
Omnisphere
An absolute classic, and my all time favorite go-to plugin for every possible instrument out there. You might already know about it (that's how well known it is), and there's a good reason for that.
High quality sounds from a vast array of instruments, ranging from ethnical flutes, ambient pianos to straight up horror-film music. There's rarely a session where I don't open this bad boy up. As you might have guessed, there's a pretty steep price tag on this one as well, at just over 500$.
